- Lines and Wrinkles
How Photofacial works
IPL Photofacial delivers a quick pulse of light energy to the skin. Prior to treatment, any make-up will be removed and the skin will be cleaned. A cool gel is applied to the targeted area and you will be asked to put on protective eyewear. During the treatment you will see bright bursts of light. These light waves target the hemoglobin and melanin in the blood vessels. They absorb the light which damages the vessel wall and fragments the pigment in the melanin. The damaged vessels are then absorbed by the body and are less visible on the skin.
The entire treatment is completed in less than thirty minutes. You will be sent home with follow-up care which may include special hydrating and skin care products. Dr. Farshidi encourages patients to bring all skin care products with them to their initial consultation to be reviewed.
Prior to treatment
Patients are advised to stay away from the sun and tanning booths for at least a month prior to treatment. Any self-tanning products should be discontinued two weeks before the session. Please share any medications you are currently taking with Dr. Farshidi as some may have a light sensitivity.
Patients can expect some redness to the skin, similar to mild sunburn, for several hours after treatment. Make-up can be applied immediately to cover any redness. You may resume your normal activities immediately. Some patients may experience mild bruising that will generally resolve within a few days.
For optimal results, patients should expect to have at least five sessions spaced two to four weeks apart. IPL Photofacial results occur gradually over the course of treatments. At the end of the series of sessions, patients will notice an elimination of unwanted spots, even skin tone, and a more youthful appearance.
