Juvederm evolves with products for treatment of volume loss, added comfort

Juvéderm is arguably the best known dermal filler treatment. It is made from a preferred filler material: Hyaluronic Acid. Since HA is produced naturally by the body, it is biocompatible and nontoxic. This feature opens up treatment to a wider range of patients, who otherwise might be allergic the synthetic materials used in other types of fillers. Generally, HA-based fillers boast fewer side effects and minimal risks of serious complications.

Juvéderm choices

Originally, there was Juvéderm Ultra and Juvéderm Ultra Plus. The “plus” version boasts larger particles and a thicker overall consistency. In turn, it is a suitable option to fill in deeper folds. The Juvéderm family has grown with the addition of Juvéderm Ultra XC and Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC. These products contain lidocaine for added comfort as the product is being injected into the treatment area.

Juvéderm products are FDA-approved to instantly smooth the “smile lines” around the nose or mouth, or those nasolabial folds. The results of treatment can last for up to 1 year. Most side effects are mild redness, tenderness, swelling, bruising, and itching that usually resolves within 7 days.

Juvéderm Voluma XC is the newest member of the family. Designed to improve the appearance of “age-related” volume loss in the cheeks, Results from treatment with this product can last for up to 2 years. As an “XC” product, Juvéderm Voluma is built-in with lidocaine for added patient comfort. Side effects associated with the Voluma product are similar to those associated with its wrinkle-smoothing counterpart; however, it is not uncommon to experience more moderate tenderness, discoloration, swelling and surface irregularities for weeks instead of days.

While Juvéderm and many other filler treatments are true “lunchtime” procedures, Dr. Arta Farshidi will provide instructions to help ease any swelling, discomfort or unwanted side effects post-treatment. Avoidance of strenuous exercise or exposure to heat and sunlight may be recommended for the first 24 hours or so following administration of Juvéderm injectables.

Dr. Farshidi can also discuss ongoing treatment options so the dramatic results from treatment can be maintained. Generally, Juvéderm is hailed for its softness and effectiveness. It is a non-invasive alternative to drastic surgical procedures. Call (949) 531-7111 to schedule a time to discuss your Juvéderm treatment options with Dr. Farshidi.
