Irvine patients achieve optimal results in a lunchtime procedure with fractional laser treatment
Arta Dermatology, near Irvine, offers a number of effective laser and light based therapies. Fractional laser treatment stands above the rest due to the unique nature of the device that delivers transformative energy to improve how your skin looks and feels.
Generally, laser and light therapies are associated with greater side effects, risks, and healing time. However, they are also associated with dramatic differences in even more severe conditions, such as deep wrinkling or melasma. These types of procedures may also require fewer sessions and less time in the doctor’s office.
On the other hand, less invasive procedures have traditionally been associated with temporary and mild side effects, and require little to no downtime as “lunchtime” treatments. Yet, to achieve desired results you require several sessions and some patients may be directed toward other types of resurfacing.
Today, you don’t have to choose comfort over rapid and dramatic results. Likewise, you don’t have to go through prolonged discomfort and recovery to get desired results.
Fractional resurfacing combines the benefits of more invasive procedures with the advantages of less invasive therapies. How is this possible? Other laser therapies generally work by either stimulating the production of collagen without removing the outermost tissues or by affecting the collagen while also removing or ablating the surface epidermis.
With fractional laser resurfacing, the light energy is divided into 1,000s of micro-columns. The result is only a fraction of the skin is treated at a time. This approach allows both the deeper layer of skin and the surface skin cells to be treated. Since not all of the outermost skin cells are exposed to the laser (as is the case with other ablative resurfacing techniques), side effects are typically compared to a mild sunburn. Swelling, redness, and peeling should resolve in just days after treatment.
Since the treatment sets off a process whereby firming collagen is remodeled and new collagen is formed, you should expect to see dramatic results progressively, usually over a 3- to 4-month period. Needs for treatment and expectations depend partly on the level of energy applied, as well as the type of condition to be treated, which could include sun damage, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, and lines and wrinkles.
